Community Guidelines & Statement of Values

Community guidelines

We will be sharing a virtual space for the duration of the Fair Shares Summit. We expect all summit participants to follow these community guidelines so that we can all engage in these important issues in a respectful, honest and accountable manner.

  1. There will be zero tolerance for words or actions that promote violence, discrimination or hate against one another on any basis, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, age or disability. Anyone who incites harm – which includes disrespectful or demeaning comments – towards another participant will be removed at the discretion of the event organizers.

  2. Respect that we are all here to learn and come to this conversation with different levels of knowledge, understanding and perspectives.

  3. We encourage active engagement in the workshops, Q&A and chat. But please leave space for others to do so as well.

Additional guidelines

We encourage participants to keep in mind the following principles, called the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing:

1. Be Inclusive

2. Emphasis on Bottom-Up Organizing

3. Let People Speak for Themselves

4. Work Together In Solidarity and Mutuality

5. Build Just Relationships Among Ourselves

6. Commitment to Self-Transformation

Statement of values

We operate within the framework of Climate Justice, which is an interconnected view of the climate crisis originating from social movements in the Global South and acknowledges the deep links between climate change, colonialism and economic inequality.

Climate Justice is inherently decolonial, feminist, internationalist, anti-capitalist, and human rights-based, and opposes colonial occupation in all its forms.

As a member of Climate Action Network Canada (CAN-RAC), we abide by the statement of solidarity made in response to the ongoing genocide in Palestine: https://climateactionnetwork.ca/can-rac-calls-for-an-immediate-ceasefire-safeguarding-human-rights-and-justice-in-palestine-and-israel/
